Team McLube Off to a Great Start at COURSE DES LIONS
May 6, 2003 The
Mini 6.5 competitors are passing the buoy at Arenys de Mar in
Spain tonight (report from Sunday), there is an international
battle going on at the head of the fleet, with Armel Tripon
the first to pass the buoy at 2105h. Close behind Tripon is
Samuel Manuard on Tip Top Too, a proto of his own design which
he sailed to victory in the Odyssey of Ulysses last month. American
sailor Jonathan McKee, sailing with Great Britain's Brian Thompson
on Team McLube, rounded the buoy in third, stopped in the
bay for repairs, and set off in 6th place. Conditions were calm
at the buoy rounding, but the forecast for the next 24 hours
was calling for winds up to 25 knots for the crossing of the
Golfe du Lion.
Emmanuel Durand has replaced Christophe Lagrange on Zoukati
after the boat made a stopover in Sete yesterday. Lagrange suffered
a back injury during a difficult maneuver.
