Supported Materials

McLube’s line of silicone-based mold release agents includes tailor-made formulas for natural and synthetic rubbers, plastics, and castable urethanes. Urethane and polyurethane foams are generally not compatible with silicone release agents due to the inherent anti-foaming properties of silicone. Materials that contain silicone, such as silicone rubbers, are not ideal candidates for silicone-based mold release because of silicone’s tendency to stick to itself. Contact McLube for assistance with selecting the right silicone release agent for your operation or explore our PTFE-based mold release agents page for other options.

Applications: is silicone right for your mold?

Silicone release agents are ideal for operations that do not include post-finishing steps like painting or gluing. Silicone release agents are conventional coatings, they transfer to the part during molding operations leaving an oily surface that will prevent paints and adhesives from sticking to parts. Generally, application every cycle will be necessary but some molding operations can achieve multiple releases per application with silicone-based release agents. Migration of silicones around a manufacturing facility is also a concern and can lead to problems in unrelated areas of a plant. Silicone release agents boast excellent flow characteristics and release capabilities when used with the right material and processes. Contact McLube to find out if silicone release agents are right for your molds.
